Going International

Yes, it is true. I had kept the information somewhat “classified”, until everything was confirmed, but it is time to tell the world: I’m heading to CERN (Geneva, Switzerland)! Yes, it was a long process, I’ve made my submission by October, and, by the end of the year, everything had been confirmed. I’ll work on open source software, at the IT department. I’ll spend 12 months there, in order to experience a “real life” working environment, and produce my master thesis. I believe that few places would be better than CERN for that purpose.
Fortunately, I’m not the only lucky guy: two great friends of mine (Mário and Pedro) are going with me, yet another fellow from my course is heading to SAP (Palo Alto, CA, USA), and, yesterday, three of my colleagues were selected for an 18 month internship at Microsoft Research (Copenhagen, Denmark).
The fact has caught the attention of the national press: “Multinational Corporations on a ‘brain hunt’, at Porto”. A hype, obviously, but also a proof that a lot has to be done in Portugal, so that brainware doesn’t get exported so easily.
The future… let’s see what happens there. I promise I’ll keep everybody up-to-date.
